This is an izakaya that specializes in chicken dishes, including yakitori and chicken sashimi. It's a bit on the pricier side, but the food and drinks are very nice.
Unfortunately, our experience at TORA鶏YA Umeda was marred by misleading pricing and disappointing portion sizes. Despite the initial allure, we were shocked to discover that foreign customers were charged inflated prices compared to locals. Moreover, the plates served were remarkably small, leaving us feeling unsatisfied and overcharged. While the ambiance and flavors were commendable, transparency and fair treatment of all customers, regardless of nationality, are paramount in the hospitality industry. We were charged for one of the dishes for 2,068JPY each person (4,136JPY for 2 ppl), while it said it cost 1,680JPY in the Japanese menu (not the English menu). Only after we disputed the price and lots of back and forth, they issued us a new receipt.
Service was subpar. Overhyped, underwhelming, not worth the “once in a life time experience” as shared on other sites. Food wasn’t fantastic, have had so much better elsewhere. Won’t go back again.
Staff was nice and attentive, food was good but the grill is not big enough for this place. Ordered heart at 9.20 arrives 10.15 for one skewer. If the place is empty would be fine.
Food was great once it arrived, however we had to wait almost an hour for our first order of 5 skewers to arrive. We ordered at 8.55pm and it didn't arrive until 9.45.
